American guy used over 2000 components from Huaqiangbei Electronic markets to build a DIY iPhone 6s , which actually works.

Former Silicon Valley programmer Scott Allen spent a year and a half in Shenzhen Huaqiangbei to go around, explore the Chinese mobile phone market, and do an iPhone 6s! The same as the real machine!.
Scott Allen built a like-new iPhone 6S 16GB entirely from parts he bought in the cell phone parts markets in Huaqiangbei. And it works!

Scott Allen has been fascinated by the cell phone parts markets in Shenzhen, China for a while. he’d walked through them a bunch of times, but he still didn’t understand basic things, like how they were organized or who was buying all these parts and what they were doing with them.

So when someone mentioned they wondered if you could build a working smartphone from parts in the markets, Scott Allen jumped at the chance to really dive in and understand how everything works. Well, he worked on it for nine months, and then dove in.
